Anonymous Comrade No.99315
>What exactly was the United Chans in the first place?
It was an organisation started by various chans that wanted a way to reduce conflict and foster cooperation. This is because that era was a clusterfuck of interchan conflict, raids, angry typing, and splits. So it was used as a line for the staffs to talk to each other, plan events, etc.
>Was it a webring or something?
More a meeting of staffs to try and foster shared understanding, though some staffs were more invested than others. There was a homepage for it, however. Though this no longer exists.
>What happened to it?
It's dead de facto and has honestly been for years even before Pchan, the biggest member chan, shut down last month. I don't think it has been active for a very long time besides maybe the wiki.
>Did everybody just drift away one-by-one?
Eventually chans stopped joining and those which were members of it either lost interest or died off.
>Was /ref/ always a part of GETChan or did it start out separately?
It was its own site, but then suddenly died one day and the /ref/ugees came here where we gave them their own board as a continuation of the old one due to the good relations that we had at the time. And the old one just never came back, so they stayed here.
>Did GET ever reside on 8chan before moving to Bunkerchan or was it independent?
It was independent, then moved to Bunkerchan once a deal was struck with the staff there to create a united lefty chan called the USSC. The Bunkerchan staff eventually reneged on this deal and instead attempted to wrestle control over the GETchan and /leftypol/ parts of the site, leading both to split off again.
