Name?

This field is optional. You can choose any name you want, or you can post anonymously by leaving this field empty.

Tripcodes are a way to identify yourself between posts without having to register with the site. To use a tripcode, enter your name as ‹name›#‹key›.You can choose anything you want as the key—it is private and will never be shown to other posters or stored on the server. For example:

Rarity#bestpony → Rarity!.4PK7yxdII

If you want a tripcode containing specific words, you can download a program designed to search for tripcodes, such as Tripcode Explorer.

Email?

Entering an e-mail is optional.

There are also code words you can enter here which perform certain actions when you submit your post.

  • sage — lets you post without bumping a thread.
  • nonoko — uses the original post behavior to redirect to the board index.

These can be used at the same time as an e-mail address by typing ‹email›#‹action›.

You can also use Skype names in place of an e-mail. The notation is the same as a link to a username on skype itself, which is skype:‹username›

CAPTCHA discussion Zeke Roa ## AdminCountry code: GET/lunachan.png, country type: custom, valid:   75695

So as I'm sure you all have noticed, there's been a large increase in spambots lately. The staff have considered different options, and we will be testing captcha on thread creation as a potential solution.
Having it only show up for thread creation makes it less obtrusive, and the spam posts are almost always new drive-by threads.

Before I set it up though, I'd like to get your thoughts on this.

>captcha on thread creation as a potential solution.
Honestly, best solution. And Imma assume that its not even going to be that difficult of a captcha as other boards have it, so it won't impair thread creation, which should be something the staff should caution when doing stuff like that. Though question, does taking key words that are used like filenames and banning anyone who posts it or preventing anyone from posting them possible? Thing you can do or nah?

Anonymous Comrade  75707

spam threads recently have had a very similar pattern, wondering if it could be matched with regex.
Anyhow locking thread creation in anyway wouldn't significantly affect GET by much. Newest thread is from Nov 2nd and the one before it was from Feb 22. Legitimate threads are very rare

Anonymous Comrade 75729

I think it would be a good idea if it cuts down on spambots; I think that disabling thread creation altogether would be a bad idea.

Anonymous Comrade  75749

you could even go so far to verify thread creation at the current pace, so pretty much any measure taken would be welcome by me

Zeke Roa  75752

Part of the reCAPTCHA ToS is that I have to put up a thing explicitly informing you that the site uses it (not complaining), and that by posting, you agree to Google's privacy policy and terms of use

Are there any non-Google alternatives?

Zeke Roa  75755

I could use CloudFlare, which we use for caching. The only problem is TinyBoard (or at least the Ponychan fork that we use) doesn't recognize CF's CAPTCHA, but with the way that works, I think it would be easier to just require everyone to do a CAPTCHA request once every 24 hours or so. Or something like that.

Other potential idea, maybe no thread creation/image uploads from new IPs? Like you can't post a new thread or upload an image if you haven't first replied to another existing thread.

Anonymous Comrade 75887

I am one of the main users who also uses Tor, and I am fine with this. Do keep in mind that captcha effectively cuts off that group of people, though I have ways around that if it ever becomes relevant.
Another option is to implement heavy restrictions (such as an IP whitelist) and coupling those with random green periods wherein those restrictions are temporarily lifted. Then you could post the start and end times of green periods in in a human readable format in leftytrash or some other thread. That would also help with figuring out if these spambots are targeted or flyby.

>>75828
What you are referring to is colloquially called "bunker mode", and I am not enthusiastic about this unless tor nodes are whitelisted by default - which arguably beats the point.

how?

No. That would beat the point.

I wouldn't mind Captcha, though a non-google one would be best so we don't feed the AI beast. /leftypol/ has a non-google captcha you could look into implementing if you want to reach out to the dev team.

I've recently added hcaptcha support to gochan so I should be able to just use that

Nowhere? GETchan's code is based almost entirely on Ponychan's fork of Tinyboard.

Not sure where to post this, but uhhh...
Can't you initiate a catalog/website "rollback", or are the threads gone? That's usually what other imageboards do when they get their catalog flooded.

Anonymous Comrade 97589

>>97588
Unfortunately not, the version of TinyBoard that we have doesn't have automatic backups built-in. I'm going to set up a cron job to do that.

Well, good luck.
The anti-spam measures weren't that bad, took them several hours to fill up the catalog. They just so happened to strike when all the staff were asleep.

Asleep or at work.
Also for the time being, we're using ReCAPTCHA until I get hCAPTCHA support working. I've been busy with IRL stuff and other projects, but the raid is bringing this front and center.
